INTRODUCTION
The holistic viewpoint cultured
by anthropological education is very important for medical students. I
believe such anthropological perspective is indispensable for the educational
reform. Since initially appointed to teach history as a course for the
premedical students in 1974, I have included anthropological matters in
my lectures, realizing that my students are specializing in medical science.
In 1994 the college has adopted "Anthropology" to replace "Modern
History", considering the movement toward open curriculum in Japanese
colleges. "Anthropology" covers mainly cultural anthropology,
while "Cultural History" covers partly natural/physical anthropology.
